INTRODUCTION

Kamla Ravikumar will conduct a Madhubani painting workshop using watercolours on paper. During the programme, she will introduce the five types of Madhubani painting: 1) Bharni 2) Kachni 3) Godhna 4) Tantrik 5) Kohbar. The workshop will focus on the Bharni style.

Madhubani art, originating from the Mithila region of Bihar, is a spiritual expression of devotion, nature, and the sacred narratives of ancient Hindu epics such as the Ramayana. It serves as a meditative prayer, with motifs like the lotus for purity, peacocks for divine love, turtles for cosmic balance, fish for fertility and abundance, and elephants for wisdom and prosperity, reflecting deep cultural reverence for spiritual insight and timeless wisdom.
